Punchlines

A son, in his 60s, stands at his father’s graveside to offer a eulogy. He begins by describing his dad's wallet and what he found in it after his dad had died. Beside the credit cards and a few dollars, he found a folded notecard with 10 punchlines. Just the punchlines, from his father's favorite jokes. And so he began a eulogy consisting, in its entirety, of 10 jokes. And in doing so, he illustrated the healing power of laughter.

Joke number 1: "He had a hat."

A bubbe brings her beautiful little grandson to the beach. They are enjoying watching the ocean. Suddenly, she sees an enormous wave heading right toward them! There's no avoiding it and the wave washes over them completely. When the wave recedes, the bubbe sees that her beautiful grandson has been swept out to sea.

She stands, looks up to the heavens, and says, "God, I've never asked for anything. Will you please return my beautiful grandson safely to me?" Just then, she sees another huge wave coming to the shore, and on top of the wave is a beautiful dolphin swimming, and in the dolphin's arms is her smiling grandson! The dolphin gently places her beautiful grandson on the sand at bubbe's feet.

And bubbe looks up to the heavens and says, "He had a hat!"
